Vou-Rock is the capital of Orc Island and the ceremonial heart of the island’s clan confederation. Built around the immense Orc Coliseum, the city is less a traditional capital and more a permanent war-camp, sacred arena, clan embassy district, and proving ground.
Vou-Rock has no great city wall. This is deliberate. The orcs believe a capital that cannot endure the dangers of the island has no right to command it.
Vou-Rock sprawls around the ancient stone bowl of the Orc Coliseum. The settlement is made from timber halls, hide awnings, stone clan lodges, trophy poles, smithing yards, training pits, beast pens, and rough shrines to Vauchy.
The city smells of smoke, blood, wet jungle, roasted meat, leather, and forge-coal. Drums sound at sunrise, sunset, and before every major contest. Outsiders often find the city chaotic, but the orcs know the rhythms of each district well.
Each major clan maintains a section of the city, known as a clan quarter. These quarters serve as embassy, barracks, shrine, feast hall, market, and political base.
The Orc Coliseum dominates Vou-Rock. It is the greatest sacred structure on the island and the central place of worship for Vauchy’s martial rites.
The coliseum hosts:
Victories in the Coliseum carry political weight. A warlord who loses too many champions may find their clan’s influence diminished. A young warrior who wins unexpectedly can rise from obscurity to fame in a single day.
Vou-Rock is governed by the Circle of Warlords, though the city’s day-to-day order is maintained by priests, veteran champions, and clan-appointed enforcers.
The Overwarlord of Orc Island traditionally resides in Vou-Rock during times of peace. In times of war, the Overwarlord leads from wherever the campaign requires.
| The Blood Sand | The central arena floor of the Coliseum. It is covered in reddish sand mixed with generations of spilled blood. Priests of Vauchy rake the sand before major contests while chanting the names of fallen champions |
|---|---|
| Warlord’s Ring | The elevated council area where the clan leaders sit during formal gatherings. Each clan has a carved stone seat marked with its symbols |
| Gutlord Quarter | A practical, fortified district full of smokehouses, granaries, butcher yards, and armor repair stations. The Gutlords believe a warrior who cannot feed themselves is already defeated |
| Blood Axe Quarter | A loud, disciplined quarter filled with training yards and challenge poles. The Blood Axes use their city district to display rising champions and prove they deserve greater status |
| Bad Moon Quarter | One of the wealthier districts, marked by bright paint, trophies, foreign goods, and hired craftsmen. Other clans mock the Bad Moons for loving wealth, but no one denies their influence |
| Goff Quarter | A brutal, direct, traditional district filled with fighting pits, old banners, and heavy weapon racks. The Goffs consider themselves the truest expression of orcish strength |
| Death Skull Quarter | A rough coastal-facing district filled with stolen figureheads, ship bells, harpoons, anchors, and trophies from raids. Many visiting sailors avoid this quarter |
| Snake Bite Quarter | A quieter, older district full of bone charms, beast hides, poison gardens, and shamanic huts. Outsiders often find it unsettling |
| Evil Sun Quarter | A fast-moving district filled with stables, riding beasts, sledges, war-wagons, and noisy young warriors. The Evil Suns are always preparing for the next raid, race, or charge |
| Skull Crusher Holdfast | Once a proud clan quarter, now divided between rival claimants. Its halls are scarred by internal fighting, and its banners are often hung upside down until the succession dispute is resolved |
Weapons are permitted almost everywhere in Vou-Rock, but drawing steel outside a sanctioned fight is a serious offense. The city survives because violence is ritualized, witnessed, and judged.
A visitor who wishes to earn respect may enter a minor contest, join a hunt, sponsor a fighter, or bring a worthy beast for the arena.
