Diantha the Bound Erinyes
Description
Diantha is a fallen Erinyes devil, once a ruthless enforcer of infernal law and punishment. Long ago she was captured and imprisoned within the depths of the World’s Largest Dungeon, bound by ancient wards meant to contain entities too dangerous to destroy outright.
Her physical form now exists only partially within the prison. Most who encounter her experience only visions, whispers, or reflections of her presence—a tall winged figure of black iron feathers, crimson eyes, and cruel elegance wrapped in broken chains of divine binding.
The prison that once held her secure is now deteriorating. Far Realm corruption bleeding through the dungeon’s ancient foundations has begun eroding the wards that restrain her.
For the first time in centuries, Diantha can reach beyond her cage.
Personality
Diantha is patient, calculating, and endlessly manipulative. Unlike many fiends who rule through terror, she prefers subtle corruption and persuasion, guiding others toward ruin while convincing them they act of their own will.
She rarely lies outright; instead she reframes truths in ways that push mortals toward catastrophic decisions.
The Far Realm corruption seeping into the prison disturbs her deeply. Though still a devil, she fears that prolonged exposure to alien influence may warp even her infernal nature into something unknowable.
Escape, therefore, is no longer merely ambition—it is survival.
Relationships
Sister-Doctor Mirelle Vey: Diantha's most useful pawn. She appears to Mirelle as a source of forbidden wisdom and arcane guidance. In truth, Diantha is slowly guiding her experiments toward outcomes that will weaken the ancient wards beneath Ember Library.
Master Librarian Victor Sarr: Diantha has never spoken directly to Sarr, but she benefits greatly from his secrecy and willingness to ignore the growing horrors beneath the library.
Brother-Doctor Oren Vale: Diantha considers Oren a potential threat. His faith and discipline make him resistant to the kinds of manipulation she prefers.
Belatu-Cadros: The great Celestial Tree that anchors many of the prison’s metaphysical seals. Diantha knows that if the tree becomes sufficiently corrupted, the final barriers preventing her escape could collapse.
Role
Diantha is a distant architect of catastrophe, manipulating events outside her prison to weaken the structures that hold her.
Through Mirelle’s blood magic experiments, she hopes to:
- destabilize ancient arcane systems connected to the dungeon prison
- corrupt sacred energies that once reinforced the prison’s wards
- create powerful constructs that could eventually serve her once she escapes
Each ritual performed beneath Ember Library is another crack in the prison walls.
Corruption
The Far Realm influence spreading through the dungeon unnerves even Diantha.
Where once she embodied the ruthless order of the Hells, the alien energies now seeping through the prison threaten to transform her into something else entirely.
This possibility terrifies her.
She would rather unleash chaos upon the world than allow herself to become a Far Realm aberration wearing a devil’s skin.
Secrets
- Secret: Diantha’s prison is weakening, but she cannot yet escape without help from the outside world.
- Secret: Mirelle believes she is mastering blood magic; in reality many of her rituals subtly reinforce Diantha’s influence.
- Secret: The corruption of Belatu-Cadros, the Celestial Tree, would collapse one of the final metaphysical seals keeping Diantha contained.
- Secret: Diantha fears the Far Realm corruption almost as much as she desires freedom.
Notes
Hook: Strange whispers in dreams, corrupted rituals, and infernal symbols appearing within Mirelle’s research may eventually lead the party to discover Diantha’s hidden influence.
Use in Play: Diantha works best as a long-term villain, one whose hand is felt long before she can physically appear.
First Impression: A seductive voice offering forbidden knowledge.
True Nature: A calculating fiend orchestrating events from beyond her prison.
Ultimate Goal: Escape the dungeon, reclaim her power, and ensure that nothing—mortal, celestial, or alien—can bind her again.
