Description
Freeport is a coastal metropolis where coin rules as surely as any lord. Its crowded docks, teeming markets, and towering stone walls mark it as a gateway between sea and inland trade. Power rests with merchant councils, mercenary companies, and underground syndicates, each vying for influence. Freeport thrives on commerce, ambition, and quiet corruption; law exists, but it bends easily to wealth and leverage. Adventurers, exiles, and opportunists alike are drawn to its promise of fortune, knowing that in Freeport survival depends less on virtue than on wit, alliances, and the strength to defend what you claim.

Culture and Society
One of the few Cities able to resist the forces of Feng during the Shattered Age, Freeport found itself an in ideal position to thrive once the reign of the Dark God ended. Positioned on the Sea and main trade river of the Free Lands, Freeport exploded as a trade and merchant city. It's society is reflected in this strong mercantile and entrepreneural spirit.
The City is a hard-edged port city culture shaped by trade, ambition, and constant motion. Merchants, sailors, nobles, laborers, and criminals all crowd its streets, giving the city a worldly, suspicious, and energetic character. Wealth and refinement exist beside poverty and vice, and public life is driven as much by reputation and influence as by law. Its people value practicality, boldness, and wit, and while the city can seem cynical, it also rewards resilience, opportunity, and those clever enough to seize them.

Notable Figures and Groups
Freeport Navy
The Freeport Navy is a disciplined maritime force built to protect trade, hunt pirates, and project the city’s power across nearby seas. Modeled on rigid hierarchy, drilled gunnery, and relentless patrol duty, its officers are expected to be polished professionals while its sailors endure harsh discipline, hard labor, and long deployments. Its ships are fast, heavily armed, and meant as much to intimidate as to fight. To merchants, the navy is a shield against chaos; to smugglers and corsairs, it is an unforgiving presence of steel, canvas, and law on the horizon. Led by Admiral Alice Summerville, the Navy has recently undergone expansion and modernization in response to the growing threat of piracy and The Triad in the Corsair Seas.
Iron Circle
The mercenary company that acts as both the main military and peacekeeping force of Freeport. The Iron Circle is a hardened mercenary brotherhood that serves as both standing army and civic enforcer for the city. Known for brutal discipline, polished armor, and an uncompromising chain of command, they patrol the streets, guard the gates, and crush unrest before it can spread. To some, they are the shield that keeps order in a dangerous world; to others, they are little better than paid soldiers with legal authority. Their loyalty is to coin, command, and the stability of the city above all else.
| Iron Circle Member | Description |
|---|---|
| Commander Liara Portyr | Liara Portyr a hardened professional—unyielding, practical, and entirely comfortable making harsh decisions if she thinks they will preserve stability. Loyal to Grand Duke Daymarr. |
| Captain Zodge | Captain Zodge is a hard-nosed Iron Circle officer who treats crisis as a tool for control, leaning on pressure, intimidation, and expediency rather than idealism. He presents himself as a dutiful soldier, but beneath that discipline he is ambitious, opportunistic, and willing to use other people as disposable assets if it helps him tighten his grip on the situation. |
| Duke Seranna Deymarr | Overall Commander of the Iron Circle. Lady Daymarr is a hard, disciplined military leader who values duty, order, and decisive action above diplomacy or softness. A lifelong soldier who rose to become Grand Duke of Freeport, she carries herself like a commander first and a politician second, making her dependable in crisis but often blunt, uncompromising, and difficult to sway once her mind is set. |
Thieves Guild
The Thieves’ Guild of Freeport is a quiet but deeply rooted criminal network that thrives beneath the city’s trade and splendor. Smugglers, burglars, fences, blackmailers, and informants all feed into its web, making it less a single gang than a shadow economy woven through the harbor, markets, and alleys. The guild prefers profit over chaos, and its leaders understand that fear, favors, and discretion are often worth more than open bloodshed. In Freeport, many locks, ledgers, and secrets ultimately answer to the guild’s unseen hand.

| Location | Description |
|---|---|
| Thieves’ Guildhall | Hidden behind a respectable counting house near the old canals, the guildhall is reached through concealed doors, false walls, wine cellars, and flooded smugglers’ passages. Inside, it feels less like a den of cutthroats and more like a criminal office of ledgers, coded messages, locked vaults, and quiet, watchful guards. |
| Shrine of the Scarlet Rogue | Tucked into a forgotten alcove beneath the guildhall, this small shrine is built around a red-painted mask, scattered silver coins, and melted candle stubs set in old wine bottles. Thieves whisper prayers here before dangerous work, asking for nimble fingers, hidden steps, and a clean escape into darkness. |
