Overview

Sigil of Wintershield

Wintershield is a vast coastal metropolis built on a massive northern penisula. Though surrounded by the cold lands of the Winterlands, the city itself is temperate, crowded, and alive with trade. Its districts hold noble courts, guildhalls, markets, temples, barracks, shipyards, taverns, criminal dens, warehouses, and foreign enclaves. To outsiders, Wintershield feels less like a frozen frontier settlement and more like a great southern port city transplanted into the north.

This is made possible by the Spire, a colossal dark stone obelisk at the heart of the city. The Spire regulates the climate of Wintershield and its near harbor, keeping the city warm enough for year-round life and commerce. Its power is the foundation of the city’s wealth, politics, religion, and survival. Without the Spire, Wintershield would be merely another frozen coastline. With it, it is the greatest city of the north.

Culture and Society

  • Religion: Dominated by Worship of Lazareth, even among the common folk who have little interest in magic or the undead. He is viewed as the savior of the city and The Spire is assumed to be powered by his divine might. This has caused friction with visitors from afar who may view him as an evil deity, but this has been long since resolved with Wintershield's nearby trading partners (The War of Emberlight). The worship of Feng is strictly outlawed, but temples to the other gods can be easily located.
  • Traditions: Pending…
